From wellness and prevention checkups to management of chronic illness, Archbold’s internal medicine specialists have you covered.
Internal medicine doctors, also called internists, are sometimes mistaken for family medicine or general practice physicians. All are types of primary care providers and skilled in diagnosing and treating many of the same infectious diseases, chronic illnesses and other health conditions. However, internal medicine doctors focus primarily on the body’s internal organs. Internists also take care of adults only, while family medicine physicians care for both younger and older patients.
Internal medicine doctors most often work in outpatient office settings, but also follow their patients to a hospital if they are admitted. Other types of internists, known as hospitalists, work in hospitals only, where they take care of adults with complicated health problems every day.
Internal medicine doctors also refer patients to specialists who can offer more advanced care for a specific condition.
