Trilogy

The Trilogy system is the world’s first non-invasive, image-guided radiation therapy system optimized for both conventional and stereotactic approaches to treating tumors and lesions.

RapidArc™ technology represents the latest evolution of cancer treatment technology, setting new benchmarks for speed, precision and patient comfort.Trilogy can deliver radiotherapy to treat volumes of cancer after surgery or as primary treatment for advanced disease. Highly contoured beams spare normal tissue. With Trilogy, even the smallest tumors can be treated—even as small as a pencil point—while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. It also delivers radiation faster than conventional linear accelerators, resulting in shorter treatment times and making the experience more comfortable for the patient.

IGRT/IMRT/SBRT

The Trilogy system incorporates Varian’s Dynamic Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) accessories for improved treatment precision, whether using conventional, conformal, or stereotactic approaches to radiation therapy.

By using Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and IGRT with Trilogy, beams are shaped to maximize radiation exposure to cancer cells while minimizing dose to normal tissue. This is accomplished in three dimensions, accounting for anatomical structures and body motion, such as breathing.

RapidArc enables clinicians to develop treatments that are potentially one-half to one-eighth the time of conventional IMRT treatments, only two minutes in some cases.

Trilogy adds more powerful advanced organ motion management capabilities, combining new image-guidance technology that lets the physician know exactly where a tumor is at the moment of treatment, with the most focused and powerful radiation beam available.

The benefit of Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) is generally realized with smaller lesions. SBRT is an extremely precise type of radiotherapy, and in the case of Trilogy, often referred to as “Gamma Knife for the body.”

Trilogy has been optimized for radiosurgery and radiotherapy and is designed to raise the standard of care while lowering the cost of treatment.

Versatility

As a single treatment unit, Trilogy performs the functions of three separate machines.

Power

Trilogy has a more tightly focused beam and can help deliver doses significantly faster than conventional accelerators, resulting in:

  • Reduced effects of tumor motion during treatment
  • Shortened treatment times
  • Enhanced patient comfort
  • Lowered risk of complications and side effects

Treatment

Trilogy is used to treat a variety of benign and malignant conditions, including metastatic cancer. With Trilogy, your treatment team can choose technique best suited for each location within the body to obtain the best possible outcome.
