Finances are often a major concern for people with cancer. Financial counseling can give them peace of mind and allows them to concentrate on the road to recovery.
Our qualified staff can answer questions about financial aid, help with insurance claims, and counsel patients who are struggling with cancer-related costs, such as treatment and medications.
Physical therapists help people diagnosed with cancer before and after surgery. Physical therapists design individualized exercise and treatment programs to help reduce or prevent many cancer-related problems.
By designing individualized treatment programs, therapists help patients recover and heal faster than they would on their own.
After a cancer diagnosis, a patient may be referred to a speech-language pathologist (SLP) to learn about what changes they can expect during and after cancer treatment. An SLP is an important member of a cancer team, as they can provide information regarding potential side effects on voice, speech, and swallowing.
Patients may experience swallowing difficulties, such as food and liquids sticking in the throat, going into the airway, or going up the nose. Therapy would focus on improving and maintaining the range of motion and strength of swallowing muscles, as well as modifications to maximize swallow safety and efficiency. In addition, patients may experience jaw pain and stiffness during and after treatment.
Many breast cancer patients experience shoulder issues brought on by cancer treatments, which can be addressed with therapy.
Occupational therapy interventions are comprehensive to not only establish baseline function and movement prior to cancer treatment but also prevent or minimize functional deficits during and after treatment. A therapist will provide training on a range of therapeutic motion exercises and muscle re-education techniques, in addition to manual therapy techniques for soft tissue and joint limitation.

Our registered dietitian helps patients with cancer create a nutrition plan that helps them better tolerate treatment and manage nutrition-related side effects. Together with other members of a patient’s care team, the dietitian ensures that each patient receives a nutritionally balanced diet that complements their treatment program and gives them the nutrients they need to heal.

Archbold offers inpatient and outpatient palliative medicine services for patients who have received a cancer diagnosis. Palliative care focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of cancer. The goal is to improve the quality of life for both the patient and the patient's family.
Our palliative medicine team works with patients’ doctors to provide an extra level of care to help patients manage side effects while they are also receiving treatment. Palliative care is available for patients at any stage of cancer.
A physician’s order is required. Learn more about palliative medicine or call the palliative care nurse practitioner at 229.228.8436.
Cancer affects not only the body but also the emotions and lives of patients and their family members. Oncology social workers can help with psychological, social, and financial concerns. They can connect patients and caregivers with support groups, home care assistance, transportation, and more. This practical support helps patients maintain a positive attitude and outlook during treatment and survivorship.
An oncology social worker can be reached at 229.584.5483.
