Nurse Extern Program
The Nurse Extern Program is for current nursing students. If in an ADN program, Nurse Externs must have completed their first semester of nursing school when applying for the program. If in a BSN program, Nurse Externs must be in their senior year when applying for the program.
Student nurses must apply for a Nurse Extern position through the online application system.
Nurse Externs are required to work 24 hours or 2 shifts a pay period (pay period is a two-week period). Nurse externs are actively engaged with an assigned preceptor to provide patient care, including assessments, assistance with ADLs, toileting, feeding, etc. For the first six months of the program, externs rotate through the following areas: Critical Care, Med-Surg, Emergency Department and Surgical Services. In the last six months of the program, the nurse extern is assigned to the unit of their choice.
Nurse Residency Pathway
The Archbold Nurse Residency Pathway is a one-year program designed to help ease the transition of new graduate nurses into clinical practice. In conjunction with a 12-week Nursing Orientation, the program includes 12 weeks of intensive sessions, followed by ongoing monthly sessions, to support a new graduate through the entire first year.
The pathway helps foster a sense of community among new graduate nurses while providing confidence and knowledge in the following areas:
- Clinical skill
- Leadership
- Patient outcomes
- Nursing sensitive indicators
- Professional role
ARCH Program
The ARCH Program (Achievement, Rewards, Caring and Healing) is a voluntary program for full-time nurses within the Archbold system. It represents Archbold’s commitment to nursing excellence and professional practice development supporting the organization’s vision, mission and values. The purpose of the ARCH Program is to promote professional growth and development, reward achievement and hard work, contribute to the recruitment and retention of licensed nurses, and create a culture promoting patient safety and quality outcomes.
The ARCH performance period is October 1 through September 30. The monetary incentive is based on the amount of points accrued throughout the performance period.
