MCH Georgia Income Tax Credit Deadline November 1
The deadline for Georgia taxpayers to donate to rural hospitals and take advantage of a rare state tax credit is quickly approaching.
The Rural Hospital Tax Credit Bill, also known as State Bill 258, was adopted to encourage Georgians to contribute and help support the growing needs of rural and critical access hospitals like Archbold’s Mitchell County Hospital (MCH) in Camilla. In order to benefit from the program in 2018, tax credit pre-approval forms must be submitted to Georgia HEART on or before November 1, 2017.
MCH is eligible to earn up to $4 million in state credits through this program. And donations will be designated to help specifically fund healthcare-related expenses at MCH.
“The donations will be used to help fund direct patient care projects, hospital capital improvements and new patient care technology at Mitchell County Hospital,” said Jamie Womack administrator of MCH. “The donations will stay local, and can have a tremendous impact on healthcare in Mitchell County.”
“Electing to participate in the Georgia rural hospital tax credit program not only allows donors to decide where their tax dollars are directed, but also rebates 90% of those taxes back to them in the form of a credit,” said Vann Middleton, president of the Archbold Foundation. “The maximum credit available to individual tax payers is $5,000, and $10,000 for those filing jointly. Taxpayers also get a Federal charitable tax deduction for the amount above and beyond the 90% credit. Those taxpayers who take advantage of the maximum $10,000 tax credit will effectively only be paying $633 out of pocket for a gift that will impact Mitchell County Hospital by over 17 times that amount. Tax credit programs are very rare, so this is a fantastic opportunity for residents to help support Mitchell County Hospital and make a difference in healthcare locally.”
Tax credit preapproval forms must be submitted to Georgia HEART on or before November 1, 2017. For more information on the Georgia rural hospital tax credit program, visit www.georgiaheart.org.
