This week is recognized nationally as National Volunteer Week, and Archbold Memorial Hospital is recognizing the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, an active group of citizens who have continued to donate their time and talents to help others since the hospital opened its doors over 90 years ago.
The Archbold Auxiliary has 76 active members who volunteer their time in 18 hospital departments.
“Whether it’s greeting our visitors at the information desk, to delivering newspapers to patient rooms, knitting caps for newborns, or providing clerical assistance in departments that simply need an extra set of hands, our volunteers truly make a difference in our hospital every day,” said Michelle Collins, director of volunteer services at Archbold.
In addition to the hours they spend assisting patients, visitors and hospital staff, the Archbold Auxiliary also designates funding for selected hospital projects.
“The funds we use to contribute to important hospital projects comes from gift shop sales and events we hold throughout the year,” said Collins. “In the past, we contributed $100,000 to the purchase of our 3D Mammography technology and $150,000 to the North Tower for the new Surgery waiting area. This year we are using our funds to purchase new patient transport chairs.”
Over the past 25 years, the Auxiliary has raised over a million dollars for annual scholarships awarded to local students studying healthcare.
“This investment has helped our community train hundreds of nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals over the years,” said Collins. “And this year, the Auxiliary will award over $40,000 to local students.”
“We are very fortunate to have volunteers that love this hospital and donate an enormous amount of their time to support us,” said Collins. “Each year our dedicated volunteers give over 20,000 hours of service to our patients.”
Archbold recently held a luncheon and awards program to recognize the hospital’s volunteers for achieving cumulative volunteer hour awards. The following Auxiliary members were recognized for their hours of service to Archbold.
