Archbold Foundation Hosts Annual Tree of Lights Ceremony

Friday, December 2, 2011

The holidays are a time to honor and remember friends and loved ones. Many people in South Georgia keep this tradition and help others, too, by making contributions to the Archbold Foundation Tree of Lights. This year, gifts will benefit Hospice of Southwest Georgia.

Individuals who are honored and family members of those remembered receive a beautiful card letting them know a gift has been given. Gifts are acknowledged and cards for the Tree of Lights and for Hanukkah are sent throughout December. A donation of $10 per individual honored is suggested, but gifts of any size are welcome.

Donors, families and the community are also invited to the lighting of the living tree in the newly renovated lobby of John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital. The December 5, 6 p.m. ceremony heralds the beginning of the holiday season and offers a celebration of life and remembrances for attendees.

This year’s tree-lighting ceremony will include music presented by Brookwood Lower School Chorus and Favor Christian Academy String Orchestra followed by the anticipated arrival of Santa Claus. The Tree of Lights tradition began 24 years ago as part of the effort to raise funds for the first Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center. For the past 13 years, contributions have benefitted Hospice of Southwest Georgia.

Gifts can be given to the Tree of Lights program throughout the holiday season. For more information, contact the Archbold Foundation at 229-228-2924.
