Archbold Named “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures”

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

Archbold Memorial Hospital has been named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in America.

Archbold was recognized as a Top Performer for their exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for treatment related to heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

Ratings were based on measures data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.

“Archbold Memorial Hospital has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” said Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president and chief executive officer for the Joint Commission.

To achieve Top Performer status, Archbold was required to 1) achieve a cumulative performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure; 2) achieve performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 cases; and 3) have at least one core measure set that has a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and within that measure set all applicable individual accountability measures that have a rate of 95 percent or above.

A 95 percent score means a hospital provided an evidenced-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities. Each accountability measure represents an evidenced-based practice—examples include giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients and giving antibiotics one hour before surgery.

“What matters most to our patients is safe, effective care with the best possible outcome,” said Perry Mustian, Archbold president and CEO. “We’re committed to delivering the highest level of quality performance, and one of the ways we achieve this is by implementing evidence-based care processes that have proven to be the most effective for patients.   As we strive to continue to provide the right care at the right time in the right place with lower costs and better quality, recognition such as this validates we’re going in the right direction.”
