Archbold-Bainbridge Specialty Clinic Offers Free Heart and Vascular Screenings

Thursday, February 13, 2014

Heart disease, also called cardiovascular disease, is the leading cause of death in Georgia accounting for one-third of all deaths in the state. Counties in Southwest Georgia rank among the locations with highest mortality rates compared to state and national averages. And though it’s estimated that 70 million Americans suffer from heart disease, unfortunately many are not aware of their risk and the simple steps to prevent heart disease and improve cardiovascular health.

Recognizing and managing your risk factors can prevent heart disease. And heart and vascular screenings are a simple way to determine if you’re at risk.

On Friday, February 21, Archbold will offer free heart and vascular screenings from 9 am until 2 pm at the new Archbold-Bainbridge Specialty Clinic located on East Shotwell Street in Bainbridge.

The free screenings will include cholesterol and glucose screenings (blood sample), pulmonary function testing and blood pressure/height/weight/BMI. In addition, vascular screenings including carotid and aortic ultrasound and ankle-brachial index (ABI) will be offered free to those 50 years of age and over who have not had the same screening in the last two years. Tests and results will be provided free to participants as a clinical outreach effort supporting Archbold’s core value of Community Benefit.

“Early detection is the key to successful treatment of chronic diseases,” said Todd Bennett, clinical outreach coordinator at Archbold. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of the free screenings, even if you aren’t experiencing any warning signs of cardiovascular disease.”

Appointments are required for the vascular screenings, but all other screenings will be offered on a walk-in basis.
