Post Graduate Year 3 (PGY-3) Schedule

  • 16 weeks internal medicine service
  • 8 weeks internal medicine service nights
  • 4 weeks ICU
  • 12 weeks subspecialty/subspecialties of your choice
  • 10 weeks elective
  • 2 weeks case management

Didactics

Occurring 7am-8am and 12pm-1pm each weekday. These sessions include core lectures, which cover topics pertinent to the foundation of Internal Medicine Curriculum and prepare our residents for their boards. Core lectures are repeated annually to allow residents to review core topics and concepts multiple times throughout their three years of residency training. In addition to core lectures, didactic sessions include journal clubs, patient safety and case reviews, resident-led lectures, board review, review of certifications, and practice management meetings.

Scholarly Activity

Our residents participate in many different scholarly activity projects including quality improvement projects. In PGY-1, residents participate in a required scholarly activity rotation where they work one-on-one with their advisor to plan out their future projects. Additional dedicated time during PGY-2 and PGY-3 is allocated to allow residents to complete their projects.

Patient Care

Internal Medicine Service

During internal medicine service rotations, the residents provide care to adult patients during day and night shift at the hospital.

Subspecialties

Subspecialty experiences are incorporated in each year of training to support resident education. Incorporated in PGY-2 and PGY-3, residents are given the flexibility to choose their subspecialty experiences.

Continuity Clinic

Throughout the residents’ three years, they are required to see patients to meet the ACGME Continuity Clinic requirement. In PGY-1, residents being their training by completing one clinic half-day each year. Residents have many opportunities to perform procedures common in the field of internal medicine.
