FAMILY & LIFESTYLE
Founded in 1826, Thomasville has many fine examples of well-preserved historic homes in defined historic districts. Downtown Thomasville’s pedestrian-friendly, tree-lined, brick streets feature an eclectic mix of shops and restaurants selling southern-made goods and internationally designed clothing and home decor. A family-centered city, Thomasville has strong private and public educational opportunities from Pre-School through Post-Graduate Degrees at Thomas University and Southern Regional Technical College. With a partnership between the YMCA and the City of Thomasville, Remington Park has outstanding field sports, swimming, and gymnastic facilities to support a leading youth sports program. The “Y” is also home to an extraordinary array of adult fitness and healthy living opportunities, including well-equipped strength and conditioning facilities, competition swimming pool, racquetball courts, and 120 group fitness classes per week.
The city has a number of private health clubs, and the Glen Arven Country Club (the oldest continuously operated country club in the south) has an 18-hole golf course designed by Stiles & VanKleek in 1929 and updated by Bob Cupp in 2014. There is also a public golf course, lighted walking trail around Cherokee Lake, and two large city parks with recreational and picnic areas, disc golf, and more.
Thomasville, Georgia is many things to different people, but in short, it is a thriving small town known for its southern hospitality and easy way of life, but it also touts amenities and attractions of a much larger community.
