Thank you for your interest in our ASHP-Accredited Pharmacy Residency Program. The AMH pharmacy practice residency gives in-depth clinical experience in a broad area of pharmacy practice including internal medicine, nephrology, critical care, emergency medicine, infectious disease and administration.

Residents present formal lectures, give in-services and prepare a major project. There is even an opportunity to participate in a medical clinic abroad. The resident also serves as preceptors for pharmacy clerkship students during some rotations. The goal of this residency is to develop clinical knowledge and leadership in pharmacy practice.

PGY1 Residency Purpose

ASHP-accredited postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency programs build on the Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Mission of Our Residency Program

Each PGY1 graduate will:

  • Be responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions

  • Be a competent, confident and compassionate pharmacy practitioner who is an active member of the health care team

  • Develop an attitude of self-evaluation and improvement

  • Prevent, identify and resolve medication-related problems and assure safe, effective and appropriate drug therapy for patients across the continuum of care

During this 12-month program, residents are involved in:

  • High-quality, patient-centered care

  • Medication use policy

  • Leadership and practice management

  • Project management

  • Education of healthcare providers and trainees

  • Medication-related support during medical emergencies
