DAISY Award

The Daisy Award

What is the DAISY award?

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation was formed in November, 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family. When Patrick died, the family felt compelled to say “thank you”, so they established the DAISY program as a way to recognize nurses in a very public way. The DAISY Award celebrates the extraordinary compassion nurses provide their patients and families every day.

How you can nominate a nurse

DAISY award recipients are nominated by patients and families for demonstrating extraordinary care, great clinical and leadership skills, and strong patient care and compassion. A DAISY Award is given to a deserving Archbold nurse each quarter. Anyone can nominate a nurse by simply completing the nomination form below and it will be sent to our DAISY Award coordinator.

If you have any questions, please contact: Kasey Smith, DAISY coordinator by email at daisy@archbold.org

Each DAISY Award Honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony in her/his unit and will receive a beautiful certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and sculpture with Healer’s Touch inscribed. Additionally, everyone in the unit will celebrate with cinnamon rolls—a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness. The Barnes Family asks that whenever and wherever nurses smell that wonderful cinnamon aroma, they stop for a moment and think about how special they are.
