Archbold Kicks Off Heart Month with Health Talk

According to the World Health Organization, Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. CVDs include coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, rheumatic heart disease and other conditions.

“Some of the common CVDs are caused by a buildup of plaque in the arteries, which can narrow or block them. CVD can also cause other problems with the heart’s muscle, valves or lining,” said Dr. Paul Ndunda, a cardiologist at Cardiovascular Consultants of South Georgia.

Risk factors for heart disease include an unhealthy diet, a lack of physical activity, excessive weight, tobacco use and harmful use of alcohol among others.

“It’s important to understand your risk factors and practice healthy habits that have been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, like following a healthy diet and exercise,” added Ndunda.

In honor of Heart Month, Archbold is hosting a free community health talk. The health talk, titled Cardiovascular Disease: Understanding Risks, Symptoms and Treatment Options, will be presented by Dr. Ndunda on Tuesday, February 4 at 6pm in Williams Auditorium at Archbold Memorial. Dinner will be served to attendees.
