Archbold Memorial Named Level II Maternal Care Verified Facility by The Joint Commission

The Joint Commission’s Maternal Levels of Care (MLC) Verification program, offered in collaboration with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), has named Archbold Memorial in Thomasville as a Level II maternal care verified facility.

The Level II designation recognizes Archbold Memorial as a Specialty Care Unit for maternal services with the capacity and resources to care for low, moderate and high-risk antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum conditions.

Archbold Memorial is the first maternal center in Georgia to be verified for Level II care.

Archbold Memorial underwent a comprehensive on-site review on Oct. 3 to verify the level of care provided. During the on-site verification visit, Archbold Memorial’s capabilities related to maternity care were evaluated.

The MLC Verification program provides an objective assessment of a facility’s capabilities and verifies that a hospital has the expertise, equipment and resources in place for a patient’s specific needs and risk level. When complications arise, verification also confirms that hospitals have agreements in place so the mother can be transferred to a higher-level facility with the appropriate level of care.

“The Joint Commission Levels of Care Verification shows our community that Archbold, in collaboration with our OB providers, has initiatives in place to ensure women receive risk-appropriate maternal care,” said Archbold Director Of Nursing Services Kellie Odom.

Archbold Memorial’s maternity center uses evidence-based guidelines to identify risks and ensure that patients receive the appropriate level of care throughout their stay. Archbold has measures in place to gauge the performance and quality of care offered to expectant mothers. The hospital also maintains relationships with regional healthcare partners to exchange knowledge and seamlessly transfer patients when needed.

“The Joint Commission commends Archbold Memorial for being named a Level II maternal care verified facility and for its efforts to standardize maternal care and reduce maternal morbidity and mortality,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “The Maternal Levels of Care Verification program will help Archbold strengthen regionalized care for mothers and babies in its community.”

Archbold is also a recipient of The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval, an internationally recognized symbol of quality. This recognition demonstrates Archbold’s commitment to holding itself accountable to a high bar for quality and safety for the communities it serves.
