Archbold's Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy Center now offers the TruDi® Navigation System. The navigation system is an image-guided navigation system designed for use during balloon sinuplasty as well as complex sinus surgical procedures. It is ideally used for patients with chronic sinus headaches or on multiple allergy and sinus medications to breathe.
"Archbold has always been on the cutting edge of technology and has offered balloon sinuplasty for chronic sinusitis patients for many years," said Lorraine Williams-Rahming, MD, otolaryngologist at Archbold's Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy Center. "This new technology will decrease surgery time and increase the accuracy of surgery, especially for patients suffering from chronic sinusitis or those with nasal and sinus polyps."
Balloon sinuplasty is used by surgeons to safely and effectively treat chronic sinusitis patients by using balloons to open blocked sinuses. With the TruDi® Navigation System, the surgeon can see when the instruments have reached the sinus cavity on the screen, allowing for down to the millimeter(mm) accuracy. This increased precision allows for better patient outcomes.
"We're excited to be the first healthcare system to bring this technology to the region," added Dr. Williams-Rahming. "It has allowed for increased accuracy during surgeries, allowing for faster return to work and decreased postoperative pain."
Balloon sinuplasty procedures can be done with local anesthesia and patients may often return to their daily routine the next day. The more complex surgeries with TruDi require a general anesthesia however, and a few more days of downtime based on the extent of disease and surgery.
