Archbold Laboratory Receives Accreditations

Sunday, January 13, 2013

The clinical laboratory at Archbold Memorial Hospital recently received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) based on results from a recent on-site examination.

A team of 12 CAP inspectors examined the hospital’s laboratory records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. The four areas examined were personnel and safety, quality improvement, technical process and proficiency testing.

“The CAP certification is a nationally recognized award, and Archbold joins a group of 7,000 facilities worldwide who have earned this laboratory accreditation,” said Wiley J. Coulter, administrative director of Archbold’s laboratory services.

Archbold’s affiliate hospitals—Brooks County Hospital, Grady General Hospital and Mitchell County Hospital—also received the CAP accreditation for their clinical laboratories, as well as Archbold’s blood gas lab and Blood Bank, which also received accreditation from the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB).

“These accreditations are designed to help laboratories go beyond regulatory compliance to achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care,” said Coulter. “Receiving the accreditations is a testament to our nationally certified laboratory personnel who are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care set by the nationally recognized accrediting bodies.”
