Archbold Hosts Health Talk on Bariatric Surgery
Sunday, April 7, 2013
Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, and obesity-related health conditions—including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer—are some of the leading causes of death in our country.
A new county health rankings report recently released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute ranked Thomas County 81 among 159 counties in Georgia, noting adult obesity rates were higher in Thomas and surrounding counties, compared to the national average.
Researchers continually find new ways to show us just how much our weight is tied to uncontrollable forces such as our genes, our neurology and our hormones. And scientists even say our odds of becoming obese may be partly encoded in our DNA.
In a world where we’re surrounded by advertisements, large portions and other cues to consume, it can seem impossible to stay focused on reaching our weight loss goal.
Archbold’s Bariatric Weight Loss Program is designed for people who have struggled with their weight, and despite multiple attempts at weight loss programs, have been unsuccessful.
The weight management and bariatric surgery program helps patients improve their overall health and enhance their quality of life.
As part of Archbold Memorial Hospital’s continuing Health Talk free community lecture series, John Mansberger, MD, will present, “The Archbold Bariatric Weight Loss Program, featuring Lap-Band® Surgery” on Tuesday, April 16, 2013.
Dr. Mansberger will discuss obesity related health conditions and medical weight loss options available to help patients achieve their health goals. Mansberger will discuss weight loss surgery, the medical criteria essential for a patient to qualify for surgery and the strong support system available to patients before and after the procedure.
Dr. Mansberger oversees the medical evaluation process for Archbold’s Bariatric Weight Loss Program, and he is the medical director of Archbold’s Integrative Medicine Center. To learn more about weight loss options, including Lap-Band surgery, please attend this Health Talk. The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. and be held in the East Tower classrooms at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Light dinner will be served. Pre-registration is requested; call (229) 227-5140 or visit www.archbold.org.
