Wednesday, December 5, 2012
The 18th annual Archbold Classic teed off Monday, November 5th in support of the Archbold Foundation. Proceeds raised will support the Archbold Scholarship Program.
The tournament was held at Glen Arven Country Club, with 27 teams competing for first place. Each team consisted of four amateur golfers and one professional golfer.
“The Archbold Classic is always an exciting tournament,” said Don Demsher, who is in his 18th year as director of the Classic. “Equally exciting is the level of support the Foundation receives every year at the event.”
The Archbold Foundation’s scholarship program provides funds yearly to students pursuing a career in healthcare-related fields. This commitment to helping the next generation of medical professionals is part of Archbold’s history, since the first scholarships were distributed in 1956 by Mr. and Mrs. John Whitney as the Major Louie A. Beard Memorial Scholarships.
Instrumental to the success of the Archbold Classic was the support and donations from local and regional businesses. The major sponsors for the 2012 Archbold Classic were BB&T, Commercial Bank, Hirtle, Callaghan & Company, Longleaf Partners Funds, Osceola Supply, Owens & Minor, Pioneer Health Services, Rumble’s Office City and Thomasville National Bank.
“The support from the community for this event is outstanding each year,” explained Frances Parker, president of the Archbold Foundation. “The Foundation appreciates the effort and enthusiasm put forward by not only our major sponsors, but the 92 other businesses that helped this tournament be a success.”
Donations to the Archbold Scholarship Program are received year-round and can be made by contacting the Archbold Foundation at 229-228-2924.
