340B Program
Archbold Memorial Hospital is a four-hospital, three nursing-home health system with 540 patient beds. We employ more than 2,500 people and boast an outstanding medical staff of nearly 200 qualified physician specialists. Our flagship hospital, John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital, is a 264-bed hospital located in Thomasville, Georgia. Our system hospitals, also in Georgia, are Archbold Brooks in Quitman, Grady General Hospital in Cairo, and Mitchell County Hospital in Camilla.
340B Drug Pricing Program
Section 340B of the Public Health Service Act requires pharmaceutical manufacturers
participating in Medicaid to sell outpatient drugs at discounted prices
to healthcare organizations, like Archbold Medical Center, that care for
many uninsured and low-income patients.
Benefits of the 340B Program
Archbold’s participation in the 340B program allows us to stretch
limited federal resources to reduce the price of outpatient pharmaceuticals
for patients, while also expanding health services to patients in the
rural communities we serve. Archbold uses the savings from the 340B Program
to offset the expense of healthcare services and medications at discharge
for uninsured and underinsured patients.
340B by the Numbers (fiscal year 2018)
• $101.26 million—cost of uncompensated care Archbold provided uninsured and underinsured patients, regardless of their ability to pay.
• $11 million—approximate annual 340B savings that benefit Archbold patients in rural South Georgia.
Impact of Scaling Back the 340B Program
Scaling back the 340B Program would threaten Archbold’s ability to
offer healthcare services and prescription drugs to patients in rural
South Georgia communities, regardless of their ability to pay.
