Since the hospital’s opening in 1925, Archbold has welcomed countless babies into the world. Over the past one hundred years, upgrades and renovations have steadily improved the maternity center, and it has now undergone a much-needed transformation.
Earlier this week, the Archbold Maternity Center's new Mother/Baby Unit officially opened to patients and welcomed its first family.
The Mother/Baby Unit features eleven spacious postpartum rooms designed for mothers to rest and spend time with family and friends. A 2,199-square-foot, state-of-the-art nursery is also part of the unit. This space includes an exam and procedure area, a Level 1 nursery, a Level 2 intermediate care nursery, and an isolation nursery.
New to the unit is a private bereavement room, where families affected by loss can grieve and be gifted with special moments with their child while receiving the emotional and spiritual support that is needed in such a delicate time.
The second half of the unit—the Labor and Delivery area—is slated to open later this summer.
“Our goal is to welcome and support each patient and family member through the entire process, from prenatal care to postpartum care,” said Kellie Odom, RN, MSN, HRM, CLNC, director of nursing at Archbold.
